Many people around the world celebrate Christmas not even knowing what it’s for. They exchange gifts, sing Christmas carol, and decorate their houses with Christmas tree and lights but clueless of what those things symbolizes.
When I was young Christmas is my most awaited day of the year. I even like Christmas more than my birthday. Before Christmas day my mom will buy me new clothes usually called pamasko and a cute belt bag for my aginaldo collection. I used to look up in the sky and wait for Santa and his reindeers thinking that he might cross our roof and when I fell asleep because of waiting elders will say “ ayan dumaan na. natulog ka kasi”.
Until I grew up, my ninongs and ninangs say “Oh! Matanda ka na kami naman ang bigyan mo ng regalo!” Hay! Christmas really is for children. That is why I have thought of Christmas as a boring day since then.
One night, as I was thinking of the reasons why I should still be exited for Christmas day I have noticed a piece of rice straw drawn by the wind and I have remembered the story about the birth of Christ.
God had given his only son to suffer and die for our sins. He was born to teach us how to give just like how God gave Christ to us, to forgive just like how Christ became the way to forgiveness and to love just like how God loved the world in spite of its imperfections and worthlessness. Christ died in the cross for his love for you and me. And so I wonder isn’t it the most sensible reason I should be happy and celebrate Christmas day?
Have a blessed Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all.
